Nottingham gets ready for the Digital Challenge
Nottingham is to bid to win the UK’s Digital Challenge; seeking a prize fund of £7million to use and develop new technology for the people of Nottingham.
Strategic partners, led by Accelerate Nottingham and including Nottingham City Council, Nottinghamshire County Council and the Greater Nottingham Partnership, are backing the city’s bid to win the prestigious competition. Organisations, businesses and communities from all sectors are being brought together to show how technology could make a difference to more people’s lives and show the further impact it would have on the city’s economic and social development.
Councillor Michael Edwards, deputy leader of Nottingham City Council said:
"Nottingham delivers. We have the best public transport outside of London. We are leading on the Respect campaign. Nottingham provides extensive IT services, is home to a significant amount of game writing and has a strong creative sector. As a science city, and with high levels of connection already in place, we will show how we can reach even more people. By asking the new users of the technology and the services to give something back, we will maximise the impact of this award."
Nottingham must submit its initial proposal to the Office of the Deputy Prime Minister by April 28th 2006. Regional winners will be announced in June 2006, with the final result announced in January 2007.
