eBay Buys Skype


Internet auction giants eBay has agreed to buy the internet communication company Skype.

The deal is worth $2.6 Billion in cash and eBay stock.

Skype is an easy to use system for making voice calls on the internet, known as "Voice over IP". This enables people to talk to each other through their computers for free.

Skype is leading the way in it's sector and already has 54 million members in 225 countries, with around 150,000 new users joining each a day.

eBay, which also owns the PayPal ecommerce service, seems set to continue as one of the internet's leading businesses and innovators, as their President and CEO Meg Whitman says, "We will create an extraordinarily powerful environment for business on the Net.”
