Free conference to consider risks and consequences of cyber attacks

security-protection-anti-virus-software-60504 - cyberThe rising risk of being a victim of a cyber attack and coping with the fall-out will be the subject of a free one-day conference in Leicester next month.

Building on the success of the East Midlands Cyber Conference in July, East Midlands Chamber* and the London Digital Security Centre will host the Securing Your Business in a Digital Age conference.

It will take place at De Montfort University, from 9am on 11 September, as part of Digital Leaders Cyber Resilience Week.

Through strategically picked key note speakers, the conference has been designed to equip delegates with latest tips on increasing employee awareness, best practice around potential cyber threats, steps to take in the event of an attack, disaster recovery and contingency planning necessary to mitigate risk – particularly the punitive risks that will come when new General Data Protection Regulations come into effect in May next year.

The conference will also look at the cyber security standards and frameworks available to help safeguard businesses and build cyber resilience.

Delegates will learn how to implement an effective business cyber security plan and how to transfer their new-found skills to key personnel within their organisation.

Speakers include John Unsworth - Chief Executive at the London Digital Security Centre, Mike Kapur - Founder and CEO at Signum Corporate Communications, Pete Goodman - Chief Constable at Derbyshire Police and Nicola Whiting - COO of Titania.

Themes to be covered include: why security matters to a business, the threat, hacking the human, hacking the machine, what ‘good’ looks like, staff training, accreditation, contingency planning - preparing for a breach, steps to take in the event of an attack, testing controls and top tips.

Andy Watterson, Business Crime Manager at East Midlands Chamber, said: “The Chamber is delighted to be working in partnership with the London Digital Security Centre to deliver this conference in Leicester.

“Cyber crime is one of the most significant threats to businesses in the region, and it is constantly evolving, so the support of the LDSC is extremely valuable. It enables the Chamber to continue to bring the most up-to-date advice and guidance to our members and the wider business community in the region.

“This event perfectly complements the previous East Midlands Cyber Security Conference and will enable SMEs to gain practical insights from some of the most knowledgeable and influential figures in the industry.”

This seminar is aimed at business owners, managers and employees in SMEs, and those who want to develop a greater understanding of cyber security, risks and business continuity.
