The Challenge

HSG founder Simon Rice spotted an opportunity for venues such as restaurants, tourist attractions, hotels and sports stadiums to really enhance their customer experience by offering users the opportunity to ‘rate their washroom’ and report any issues so they could be addressed swiftly and efficiently. It wanted to introduce a Trip Advisor-type review system, specifically for washrooms, allowing customers to provide feedback directly to the venue operator.

Digital Growth Programme Solution
We provided grant funding of £22,000 towards a total project spend of £55,000 for the development of a bespoke app and dashboard, called Cleen, which gives venues better control over their washroom management. Customers can download the app, leave a rating for the overall cleanliness of a washroom, and report any issues such as no toilet rolls, poor cleanliness or broken equipment. These are reported directly to the venue’s service provider, who can address them immediately.

The Impact
The app has received thousands of downloads since launch and of the six venues which are using the dashboard, all have been able to improve their customer review scores by quickly acting on the feedback received via the dashboard. The company is currently in discussion with several new venues across the UK about installing the Cleen system.
