Tidyco is a market-leading engineering company which supplies hydraulic hoses, connectors, assemblies, components and services to the rail, defence, utilities and manufacturing industries in the UK. It also distributes a huge product range to the international marketplace. Its fully-functioning online store has thousands of hydraulic and pneumatic products ready for shipping across the globe. It also provides an emergency on-site hydraulic hose replacement service and complete HVAC design, supply, installation and maintenance.

The Challenge

Tidyco has engaged with the Digital Growth Programme for several years. It wanted to enhance its in-house digital capabilities to enable it to expand its online reach and exploit new market opportunities online, particularly in emerging economies like China. It was looking to integrate multi-lingual chatbot technology into its online store, to allow customer communication to take place with an international audience 24/7, 365-days-a-year

Digital Growth Programme Solution
Tidyco’s Head of Marketing, Barry Aldridge, has attended several Digital Growth Programme workshops and Digital Conferences. Through the knowledge acquired at these workshops, he was able to investigate digital routes to China, as well as access expert advice and guidance about activating automated chatbot technology in an international language. Tidyco’s chatbot directs international clients towards a dedicated Export Manager during working hours and provides automated communication outside of UK office time.

The Impact
Tidyco has made major inroads into the Chinese market after implementing its chatbot technology. It has been named as a Midlands Engine Export Champion by the Department for International Trade, as well as winning the local East Midlands Chamber and the regional British Chambers of Commerce’s Export Award, in 2018.
